Getting back to school means getting back to routines. Summer always feels like it flies by! And whether your routine changes a little or a lot, there are ways to prepare for the schedule shift that can make your days a little (or a lot!) less chaotic. Here are some of the ways we prepare at HEX...
1. Meal Prep Your Breakfast
A good day often starts with a good breakfast. Try preparing the night or weekend before to make sure you have a healthy start to the day. This could include making your favorite egg muffins to freeze and enjoy throughout the week. Or stock up on frozen fruits & veggies as a quick addition to any smoothie or shake! Spinach is often a good go-to for smoothie recipes and is rich in nutrients and antioxidants.
2. Get A Good Nights Sleep
We all know the importance of getting a good night's sleep. It has short-term and long-term affects on your overall health.
The American Heart Association recommends adults should be aiming for 7-9 hours of sleep a night! Make sure to limit your screen use before bed: this includes TV and phone! They also recommend going to bed and waking up at the same time 7 days a week, to provide yourself some routine. Try setting a go-to-sleep alarm as well as a wake-up alarm!
3. Save on Back to School Supplies
Back to school means a laundry list (no pun intended!) of supplies needed for the school year or work year! These expenses can really add up.

4. Make a Checklist
Checklists just make tackling projects so much easier. There is no end to the list of lists that you can come up with. Try making lists like dinner ideas for the week, grocery lists, back to school supply lists, daily exercise ideas lists or simply to-do lists!
Checking things off your lists will give you a sense of accomplishment and organization!

Depending on your fitness goals, 30 minutes of exercise a day can help you loose and/or maintain your weight. Exercise doesn't have to be boring or even mindful. Make little changes like taking the stairs when you can.
You can kill two birds with one stone by inviting a friend for a catch up and walk, deep cleaning your entire home to get your steps in, keep you and your kids entertained with fun games or try walking meetings if work allows.
7. Create Back to School Traditions

8. Know Your Schedule
Create a schedule to help you feel organized and on time. Take time each week or each night to prepare the next day's schedule. It's helpful to make sure you create a schedule for yourself and your loved ones so everyone stays on track.
Whether it's a digital scheduling app or a hand written planner, schedules improve your own time management skills, while teaching your kids the importance of time management.
9. Make Easy & Fun Dinner Recipes
On busy school nights, by the time dinner rolls around does anyone ACTUALLY feel like cooking? Sure, we love a good, healthy home cooked meal, but that takes energy and there's not much left by 6pm. Make it easier on yourself by having quick and easy recipes and ingredients on hand.
